With great splendor, the School of Physical Education and Sport Science (TEFAA) of Democritus University of Thrace celebrated its 40th anniversary during the Commemorative 32nd International Congress on Physical Education and Sport Science (ICPESS), held from May 31 to June 2, 2024. This year’s congress hosted over 900 participants from Greece, Cyprus, the USA, Finland, Norway, Germany, the UK, Poland, Romania, Italy, Bulgaria, and Egypt. A total of 250 scientific papers were presented, along with nine roundtable discussions featuring distinguished speakers from Greece and abroad, nine practical application workshops, and parallel events organized by the Hellenic Academy of Physical Education covering a wide range of topics in Sports Science.
The keynote speaker of the congress was Professor Jayden (Yongiae) Kim, an expert in Sports Management from Kutztown University, Pennsylvania, USA. A highlight of the event was the celebration of the achievements of the Greek Men’s and Women’s National Water Polo Teams, followed by the honoring of the President of the Hellenic Swimming Federation (KOE), Kyriakos Giannopoulos, and the National Team Coaches, Theodoros Vlachos and Alexia-Anna Kammenou. Distinguished athletes Konstantinos Loulis, Georgios Afroudakis, Paraskevi Vassou, Margarita Plevritou, and Christina Diamantopoulou were also awarded. Special recognition was given to the Secretary General for Sports, Mr. Georgios Mavrotas.
The “Nikos Samaras Award” was presented to Olympic Champion in Artistic Gymnastics, Dimosthenis Tampakos, an exceptional athlete and individual who has emerged as one of the brightest names in Artistic Gymnastics, achieving the highest international accolades
